The best motivation is internal – meaning that a person does something – like their job – because they have a very real desire to do that job that comes from inside the individual. That is much more powerful than the external motivation that most managers and leaders try to use.
Motivating people is about understanding what they value – what they want to do, what they want to be known and respected for.
